Owners of one of the most beloved bistros in North Park, The Smoking Goat, Fred and Tammy Peihl asked obrARCHITECTURE to help with the design of the new 5,000 SF, two-story restaurant. One Door North shares a wall with The Smoking Goat and the concept focuses on bringing the great outdoors indoors. The restaurant is broken up into three distinct areas: the street-facing section with banquettes, the main central bar and the back section with tents. The back of the restaurant is covered with floor-to-ceiling forest imagery and lined with camp-style canvas tents and semi-private 11-foot dining booths.
Themes taken from the mountains, coasts and lakes the Piehl family has traveled to is incorporated into the walls and the tables, which are all hand-carved, live-edge wood from a sustainability logged forest in Wisconsin. In working with us, the Piehls wanted to be sure that the architectural language of the space reflected the culinary experience that they intended to create.
