Given the nature of IDW Publishing’s comic artist work, the design draws inspiration from comic strip layouts using frames and lines of sight to focus one’s attention on the high-energy, collaborative spaces. The design aims to create a playful environment for both visitors of the museum as well as employees, through abstracted comic book character references, color and scale.
The museum area is focused around two artist studios where visitors can peer through strategically placed windows as artists work through the creative process of bringing characters and comic books to life. IDW Publishing will not only serve as a large creative entity anchoring the arts and culture district at the Naval Training Center but will also be a destination point, drawing large crowds and international visitors during events like Comic-Con and artist signings.
