The Hotel Del Coronado Oxford Building is a historic building renovation, with a design focused on history and story telling. it is The “Time Machine”: a building programmed into two use categories – Work & Travel. The Work office areas are light and bright spaces to inhabit. Time Travel occurs in the purposefully dark, vertical circulation components that transport you through the eras of significance of the Oxford. Each floor / era is also identified with a color change for ease of wayfinding within the building. The basement era spans from 1887 (build date) to 1910, the 1st floors era spans from 1911 (Oxfords 1st move) to 1982, the 2nd floors era spans 1983 (Oxfords 2nd move) to 2017, and the 3rd floors era spans present day and into the future.
Art is planned throughout, to be organized on one wall in each vertical circulation zone. The main stair is the main “Time Machine” and shall have a high concentration of art. Each floor’s art program shall pertain to its assigned era and its significant Hotel Del events. Art will also be found in the Work areas in singularity.
