Located in Fallbrook, the Container Residence is a ground-up construction using recycled materials, consisting of two shipping containers connected by a central living space. The entire project is elevated off of the earth minimizing the amount of grading necessary and preserving as much of the natural environment as possible. The Shipping Containers on the wings of the house contain either the public/ shared space, while the other contains the Owner’s private suite.
The space between the two Shipping Containers links the front of the property, including extensive stepped patio space and a recycled Shipping Container “ModPool”, all leading out to their orchard. The home was designed with passive systems and utilizes recycled materials throughout. Clerestory windows and a folding door system work in unison to provide cross ventilation, while large overhangs on the roof and extruded trim on the windows limit solar heat gain and providing diffuse daylight. A grey water system will be included on sight, along with Solar Panels which will greatly reduce the couple’s carbon footprint.
